Little Mix cement their new pop star status on Tops Of The Pops Christmas special But will they be beaten to the Christmas No.1 spot?

When many wannabe stars finally find fame, they admit they grew up dreaming of being on Top Of The Pops.

However, in the case of X Factor winners Little Mix, the foursome are so young, they could be forgiven for barely remembering the original weekly show, which was cancelled over five years ago.

But gracing the BBC music show's annual Christmas special will certainly be something of an honour for the pop quartet, who are still getting used to their newfound fame.

Looking co-ordinated in black shorts, leggings or skirts, the four-piece reminded the audience who was who by displaying customised jumpers with their names on.

Enjoying their new fame, the girl group joined their now-contemporaries Pixie Lott, The Wanted, Rizzle Kicks and Emeli Sande at the BBC studios for the one-off special edition of the resurrected show.

And it will be somewhat of a reunion for the group and Olly Murs - who is also performing and got to know the girls while presenting The Xtra Factor with Caroline Flack.

The pre-recorded show - which officially confirms the Christmas No.1 for this year - is hosted by Fearne Cotton and Reggie Yates.

And despite reaching the top spot with their debut single Cannonball last weekend, it looks unlikely Little Mix will be able to hold on to the No.1 this weekend.

Instead the Military Wives's track Wherever You Are is tipped to take the coveted spot after outselling the remaining singles in the top 20.

Gareth Malone's choir have sold a staggering 319,000 copies of the single, based on units sold up to midnight last night, and are currently outselling X Factor winners Little Mix's single Cannonball six to one.

Official Charts Company managing director Martin Talbot said: 'This truly is an extraordinary result for Gareth and his choir – easily now the fastest selling record for years.

@ Stephen, Yes the Military Wives are a good cause, however the Little Mix girls are genuine, nice people. They themselves have supported the Military Wives single and have backed it to get to number one.

All I can say is that heavens BBC refused to sell the rights to Cowell and ITV turned down his idea to have a his weekly version

I've bought several copies of the military wives' song. I'd much rather support the wives and partners of our brave soldiers, than some talentless fame-seeking television show highlights. The soldiers fight for our country. The families pray and shed tears in hope of a safe return, as we all do. Best of luck to the Military Wives.
