But X Factor USA host tried his luck tonight with the sizzling Nicole Scherzinger, live on air during the X Factor USA final.

The Welsh Lothario, 34, cheekily asked Nicole if he could spend Christmas with her - after probing her on her holiday plans.

A surprised Nicole erupted into fits of giggles upon the request - after initially looking slightly taken aback.

With the theme of tonight's show being about the holidays, Steve asked the X Factor panellist: 'What are you doing for Christmas Nicole,' to which she replied: 'I am going to be spending it at home with my loved ones.'

Steve then interjected, with a raised eyebrow: 'Perhaps I could come over,' leaving Nicole looking rosy-cheeked.

In an interview with The Sun Steve - who is rumoured to be getting the axe from the show - vowed to bed Nicole if he leaves the Fox singing contest.

He said: 'If I ever leave X Factor, Scherzinger’s phone will be smoking hot from me ringing it constantly because if we’re not colleagues – oh, she’s fair game. Oh, yeah.'

Although the pair have become extremely close, Jones says that at present they are just 'colleagues and good friends'.

Steve and Nicole were spotted together on Saturday night, hanging out with friends at the Churchhill bar in West Hollywood.

Nicole was dressed in a strapless sparkling jumpsuit and according to an onlooker who spoke to MailOnline, appeared to be enjoying Steve's eager advances.

Last night saw Melanie Amaro crowned the winner, beating out Josh Krajcik and Chris Rene to take the crown.
